JULY AND AUGUST FAMILY STORIES

JULY 1 1835                                  JACOB PEART                 Alston England

Jacob Peart’s parent joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in England and they came to Nauvoo J acob was 6 years old.  They lived as neighbors to Joseph Smith.  Jacob’s mother and 4 sisters died in Nauvoo.  He was also there when the Prophet’s body was brought back to Nauvoo after the martyrdom.  His family arrived in Utah in 1848.  He was 13 and he drove 3 oxen across the plains.  His first wife, Margaret Grey, was your line and they had 7 daughters and 5 sons.

GEORGE ROMNEY 

                

 Lancashire England

George Romney is the son of Mile Romney and Elizabeth Gaskell.  (Mitt Romney’s family also comes through Miles and Elizabeth line.)  George had 3 wives and 35 children.  We come through his second wife Vilate Ellen Douglas (her family came from that beautiful little village we visited when we picked Jeff up from his mission called Downham in Lancaster).  The women that made the quilt that many of you have a piece of, is their daughter, Mary Romney Ross.

George Romney was born in Dalton-In –Furness, Lancashire England.  He came to Nauvoo and later to Utah with his parents who had joined the church in England.  George was a prominent man in the state of Utah helping in the betterment and development of the area. He served as the bishop of the 20^th ward and they lived on C street in SLC.  He served a mission to England, Leaving his families for 2 years.  George was a VP and director of ZCMI, and served on many other company’s boards.  He also served 2 terms on the city council.   Marilee's great great grandfather (Young side)

AUGUST 24 181                                       JAMES PAGE                                       Norfolk England

James Page joined the church in England and brought his wife, and 8 of their 12 children on the ship “William Tapscott” with 990 other passengers in May 1860.  Their oldest son William had gone to Utah 4 years before and 3 of their children had died in England.  Four days out to sea Louisa gave birth to a daughter their 13^th child.  They arrived in Utah in 1861 and settled in Bountiful them moved north to Brigham city area. James was a cross man hard to live with.  His first wife Louisa died after a hard life at the age of 43.  James remarried and later took his new wife and 2 of his younger sons back to England where they joined the Reorganized Church.  In the end they lived in Iowa and remained in the RLDS church.  The Page children were faithful in the LDS church even the 2 boys that left with their father.  They handed down this advice “Never let what anyone says or does destroy your faith in the Church.” Because this is what happened to James Page.                                      Rick's great great grandfather
