The next day was May 1st which is a holiday, labor day here. We went on the Ding Ding to the mid level escalator. On the way we saw a political demonstration and the thousands of domestic workers hanging around together on their day off.
It is the longest escalator system in the world. It is several connecting escalators that take you up the mountain side. The city is built on the mountain side so you can get off and shop, eat and wander around. You have to walk down since the escalators only go up during the day. They go down in the morning for rush hour getting into town traffic. We found a good French restaurant for lunch.
May 2 we visited the Wong Tai Sin Temple. It is popular with the people here because it is the temple of good fortune and money blessings. It is very colorful and the air is full of the fumes of incense and clacking of shaking sticks. We visited the Nan Lian Gardens which was peaceful and a calm retreat from the busy life of Hong Kong. We met up with Rick on the pier by Victoria Bay. Later that night Emily arrived and we happily welcomed her home.
