Our card game...The next morning which was Tuesday - we checked out of the hotel and found the nearest patisserie and fruit stand. Emily had a pint of Strawberries, Abby ate a grapefruit and we all had a baguette and ementaul cheese. We did sample a chocolate croissant or 2 - as you all know food is a hightlight of our trips. Come to think of it at the end of this day we drove the hour to cross the border into France and hit 4 patisseries in a half hour which says something of our priorities! Before we left Bruge we did some more sight seeing of the town, bought lace, a tapestry, and belguim chocolates.
Anyway, we did get to Ypres which is a small town where the allied forces held off the German for about 4 years. The big beautiful building have been rebuilt but the were completly demolished during the war. We saw some trenches and battle relics in an old farmhouse museum. We also walked through the impressive British cemetary of Tyne Cott - the largest of british war cementaries. It was sobering to think of such horrendous events happening in the farm lands and villages of that area.

I starting laughing out loud about the pastries-- that is totally my family and I wish I could be there-- hint hint.
That's a great story about going across the border for some pastries. I love it!
